African Speed Record

From 9 till 15 April the Speed Event Kite for Men took place in Leucate (France). Speed records are ratified by the World Sailing Speed Record Council (WSSRC). 28 participants from France, USA, Algeria, Namibia, Norway, Spain and Great Britain took part.

Manu Taub from France broke the world speed record with 39.79 knots. The old record was held by "legend" Robby Naish at 38.47 knots.

The sensation however was young Namibian Olaf Marting, who broke the African record by sailing a record 38.18 knots. He sailed the 4th fastest time of the event. In the 8 heats which were sailed, Olaf returned the following best positions: 2nd, 5th, 8th, 8th. Imagine thsat it was his first participation at this level!

The world‘s best Kite Boarders took part.

Olaf is now No. 5 on the world ranking list.

Remember: From 17 to 23 October the Speed Week will be held in Walvis Bay (Namibia). Be there!
