WINDHOEK OPTICS RAMBLERS Windhoek Optics Ramblers overcame a tough hurdle last weekend in Reho-both when Friends FC were beaten 2:1!

Playing without five regulars due to injuries Ramblers was well moti-vated and prepared for this important game and immediately started controlling this game from the kick off.

After twenty minutes Arend von Stryck won a loose tussle for the ball up front and passed the ball to Michael Pienaar whose neat cross found Henrico Botes who calmly put the ball into the back of the net to put Windhoek Optics Ramblers into the lead.

Friends always looked dangerous on the counter attack and managed to equalise in the second half through a penalty. Windhoek Optics Ramblers fought back courageosly and wanted to win this game desperately. Veteran Lanie Majiedt, who at 37 years made a comeback after an absence of ten years, came on for Ramblers in the 70. minute. It was his through ball that enabled Victor Helu to break through on the right wing in the 89. minute to cross neatly for Patrick M’Kontwana who got the winner for Windhoek Optics Ramblers with a fine header! Esau Tjiuoro and Victor Helu are on duty for the Brave Warriors against Angola in a Cosafa Cup first round match to be played in Luanda on Sunday.

We wish Esau and Victor and the entire Brave Warriors team the best of luck!! The rest of the team takes a break this weekend. Hopefully all players that are injured currently will have recovered by 15 May when we meet Black Africa in the quarter final of the NFA Cup.

LADIES SOCCER

Our ladies ended in third position in the tournament in Rehoboth last weekend. OLD BOYS

Ramblers Old Boys won their third successive league match when they beat arch rivals SKW 1:0 at home last Wednesday night. SKW had the first chance to score, but the ball came off the post. Almost immediately thereafter Richard Wahl broke through for Ramblers on the left wing and his accurate pass found Raymond Botes who calmly put the ball into the back of the net of the SKW goal. Raymond Botes is the brother of Henrico Botes,

goalgetter of Windhoek Optics Ramblers.

In a very fair game SKW applied consistent pressure in the second half, but could never really threaten the solid Ramblers defence.

This result has put Ramblers to the top spot on the logstandings of the Old Boys league. Well done guys!!

The following league games will be played at SKW next Wednesday, 12 May 2004:

18H50 SKW vs DTS

20H00 Young Ones vs Ramblers
