SOCCER

Windhoek Optics Ramblers took maximum points last weekend! In the first game played last Saturday afternoon African Stars went into the lead, but our lads turned the game around to win 3:1. Goalscorers for Windhoek Optics Ramblers were Henrico Botes in his first game after a knee operation, new signing Ali Majiedt as well as stalwart Nico Nicodemus. On Sunday we came up against the mighty Civilians. The first half was evenly contested with very few scoring opportunities being created. In the second half Windhoek Optics Ramblers more attacking and aggressive style of play paid off instantly when substitute Ellington Tjirimuje received a defence-splitting pass from Rudi Louw and calmly put us in the lead after 50 minutes. More clear scoring opportunites from Patrick M’Kon-twana and Henrico Botes followed.

Civics equalised in the 65. minute through Congo Hindjou who was left unmarked in the penalty area after a corner. But Windhoek Optics Ramblers were determined to win this match and after some fine passing combinations as Victor Helu who send a long through pass to Ellington Tjirimuje who once again kept his nerve to score the winner for Windhoek Optics Ramblers in the 80. minute. All in all a well deserved victory characterised by a genuine team effort.

There will be no Premier League action this weekend. Victor Helu, Patrick M’Kontwana and Chris Nauseb will be representing the Brave Warriors against Botswana in a Cosafa Cup qualifier on Sunday afternoon in the Independence stadium. Good luck!!
