Monday 21st of June 2004 The tournament was played over 12 weeks and matches were played on Friday evenings. A total of 51 mens’ teams and 8 ladies teams took part in the competition. The men were divided into 6 groups and the ladies played in one group. The first round of matches was played on a league basis and the first 5 teams in each group plus the 2 best placed teams in 6th place from all groups qualified for the next stage of the competition. For the ladies, the first four teams progressed straight into the semi-finals. During the first stage a total of 220 matches were played with a total of 360 goals scored (on average 1.6 goals per match). It also means that some 3080 minutes (some 50 hours) of soccer were played. The second stage was played on a knock-out basis meaning that the loosers of a match were out of the competition. 32 mens’ teams started the first knock-out stage reducing to 16 in the second stage. The second stage and quarter finals were played on one day, leaving the 4 teams that played for the finals. 28 knock-out matches were played and 43 goals scored (average of 1.5 goals per match). 12 of those matches had to be decided via a penalty shoot-out after ending in a draw after normal playing time. The semi-finals and finals were left for the big day. On the mens side Cymot Midas, Newsprint, Cymot Greensport and Nashua made it to the Semi-finals and for the ladies Ramblers Hockey, Civics Sharks, NBC and Tasly Ramlers went through. The mens final brought out Cymot Midas as winner with Cymot Greensport as runner-up and for the ladies Civics Sharks was the winner with Tasly Ramblers as runner-up. In total 256 matches were played, 416 goals scored, 3568 minutes of soccer played (some 60 hours). The top goal scorer of the tournament was Hans Subeb from Cymot Midas. The trophy for the most disciplined team went to newcomer team CBS and their manager Theo Becker. |
