In 2004 two photography courses by Djunior Svane were held in Namibia. in February the group started a course "Photography I - Basics" at the FNCC. As beginners with little experience in photography, the participants had been using their cameras mainly in the automatic mode, so the objectives of the course were "how to handle a camera manually, what is aperture or the depth of field, how to use a light metre and how to take good photographs, etc".

During the course the participants also learnt how to develop their films and to print photographs in a darkroom. By the end of the course they were so enthusiastic about photography that they attended a second course, involving more fieldwork and prints.

Now it’s time to exhibit the prints on different materials and techniques.

The exhibition was officially opened on 1 July 2004 at the FNCC Café des Arts. Three local companies have donated prizes for the three best photographs of the exhibition, while the courses were also sponsored by the FNCC and Kodak.

The Courses

During the first four months (Photography I), the participants learnt about the history of photography, how to read a picture, how to maintain a camera, photocomp[osition/ light, aperture and F-Stop Numbers, formal and location portrait, micro photography, darkroom work and development of films/ prints.

Thephotography II course entailed field work, flash, TTL automatic flash, manual flash and the combination of flashlight and daylight, filters (b/w), copyright, retouch, passpartout, production of portgolio; slideshow, still-movie-film or exhibition.
