Big Issue Namibia will take part in the International World Cup for Homeless people, which is scheduled in Sweden from 25 July till 1 August. Altogether 28 countries will send their „national teams" to lock horns in this prestigious event.

the event will be played for the second time. In 2002 the competition was played in Austria and the home team Austria was the defending champion. Four countries from Africa, namely Namibia, South Africa, Kenya and Cameroon will be part of this years competition.

Namibia will send 6 players and 3 officials, who travelled to Sweden on Thursday. There they will hope to do well in the 4-A-Side Tournament. The aim of the event is to alleviate poverty and to promote the fight against the global problem. The theme is :"Now the time has come to kick poverty".

Players will exchange ideas and combine forces to fight poverty. The tournament is a tool to help homeless people to feel more accommodated.

The next tournament of this kind takes place in New York (USA) in 2005.

We wish our representatives good luck and lots of success in Sweden.
