Wednesday 19th of March 2003 SOCCER Windhoek Optics Ramblers travels to Otjiwarongo this weekend where we are playing Rangers in the second round of prestigious NFA Cup on Saturday. Should we win this one we will meet the winners of the Young Eagles vs Space Ace game on Sunday. The team is currently in good form and should overcome these two hurdles to qualify for the quarter final. We wish coach Jorge da Purificacao and the entire team the best of luck for the weekend and most importantly a safe trip to Otjiwarongo and back. SOCIAL SOCCER LEAGUE Our reserve side played their first tournament last weekend after having trained together for merely a week. It came as no surprise when we lost our first encounter on Friday night against Cymot 1:2. On Saturday morning Ramblers played against their counterparts, SKW II, and easily won this game 4:0 through goals from Charlie Shikeso (3) and Bernard M’bilizi. We thus advanced to the semi-finals where we met SKW I, last year’s league winners. SKW were leading 1:0 at half time and in the second half Ramblers equalised after a brilliant goal from Charlie Shikeso with Emil Johnson having provided the final cross. Emil Johnson soon therafter put Ramblers into the lead, but SKW fought back in characteristic fashion. A misunderstanding in the Ramblers defence resulted in an own goal and three minutes before the end SKW got the winner through a beautiful header. All in all, a good debut for coach Ockies Ockhuizen. If this team practices and plays together for a longer period, Ramblers will once again a force to be recockened with in the Social Soccer league that is due to start next weekend. TOP SCORE The Top Score 7-a-side final round will be played on 28 March 2003. RAMBLERS HOCKEY Our very junior team consisting of mainly 6-9 year old girls, the "Smarties", lost their league game against the much older St Pauls side 1:2 last Friday night. Verena Smith brought the score to 1:1 at one stage and this was the reason for a lot of excitement after the game. Last night Ramblers beat DTS 4:1 in the first league. Goalscorers were Monika Ihms(2), Hester Jansen and Sandra Meyer. Well done, ladies! VIP CLUB The weekly jackpot still stands at a whopping N$ 1000 as Joyce Frewer was not at the Club last Friday night at 19H00 when her number was drawn. |
