Friday 30th of July 2004 Last Sundaythe first locomotives left the Zhanghuabang Port in Shanghai, China, on their way to Namibia. It is the first export of this kind to Namibia. 30 oil tanks and 4 diesel locomotives are on their way. Later this year, another set of diesel railroad cars will be delivered. It is said that the locomotives (valued at N$ 37 million) are designed for our high temperatures and semi-arid environment. They are designed to speed at 120 km/h, but the real speed could be 90 km/h. |
